The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday stayed a High Court verdict that had annulled the government’s decision to issue appointment letters to 6,531 candidates qualified for the post of assistant teachers at government primary schools in the Dhaka and Chittagong divisions.
A full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, passed the order following a leave to appeal petition filed by the Directorate of Primary Education against the High Court’s decision.
With the SC order, there is no legal barrier to the government’s recruitment of the qualified candidates for the assistant teacher positions at government primary schools.
Earlier, on February 6, the High Court had annulled the recruitment process for the 6,531 candidates and canceled the government’s decision to issue appointment letters. In response, the Directorate of Primary Education filed a leave to appeal, seeking a stay on the High Court’s order.
