Writers, publishers and journalists have underscored the need for greater cultural and literary exchange between Bangladesh and China to cement the ties of the two friendly countries.
They were speaking at the second CMG Writers’ Forum titled ‘China through Literature’ at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday.
China Media Group (CMG) organised the event ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China.
Three authors — Alamgir Reza Chowdhury, Rehman Siddique and Dr Mohammad Sady – were honoured at the programme for writing books on China. They were given a crest each and cash money.
Cultural Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh Li Shaopeng, Director General of Press Institute of Bangladesh Farooq Wasif, Director of CMG Bengali Service Yu Guang Yue Anandi, Directors of Bangla Academy Dr Mohammad Harun Rashid and GM Mizanur Rahman, were present at the event.
Prominent writer and journalist Dr Mahbub Hasan, Abdul Hai Shikder and Zakir Abu Zafar highlighted the importance of exchange between writers of the two nations.
The directors of Modern Language Institute and Confucius Institutes laid emphasis on the importance of Chinese language learning in Bangladesh for boosting ties.
